Large Antique Flemish Tapestry
Large pre-19th century historical Flemish tapestry composed of hand-woven wool. The piece is heavily detailed with classical figures in the foreground and a landscape scene in the background featuring armies and individuals riding elephants. Provenance for this piece can be traced to a series of tapestries sold at Sothebys Auction House in New York City on Thursday, January 29th 1998. The auction was titled European Works of Art, Arms and Armour, Furniture and Tapestries. Please note of wear consistent with antique age including a missing boarder and faded fabric. There is also evidence of restoration work conducted by restoration studio whose clients include Blau Gallery in New York City. Made in the Flemish region of Belgium.
