Early Sterling Silver Vinaigrette

Circa early 19th century sterling silver vinaigrette box made in Birmingham, England. The interior is fitted with a small hinged screen decorated with a swan motif framed by scrolled foliage. This screen is used to securely enclose a small piece of fabric or sponge soaked in perfume for the wearer to discretely mask unpleasant smells during travel. The exterior lid is uniquely decorated with a central crest motif, diamond shaped motifs, and thin scrolled trim. Please note of wear consistent with age including patina on both the interior and exterior due to antique age. Weight 11.7 Grams.
